Do you have an idea for how you would like to improve your community or conditions? A non-profit start-up that needs a boost? I love creating and developing new programs—I can help you take your idea from a back-of-the-napkin drawing to real-world client service delivery.
I began working with nonprofit agencies in 1975, serving low-income neighborhoods and managing a variety of volunteer programs. Volunteers bring an amazing heart-driven commitment and unstoppable energy that I find inspiring.
My experience in community organizing includes 15 years in local government and 6 years as a United Way Executive Director. Along the way I also managed an Arts and Humanities Council, staffed a 24-hour Crisis Center, conducted capital campaigns, and raised and managed more than $15 million in grant funds. I have written and evaluated hundreds of grant proposals, and have trained thousands of staff, board members, and volunteers to raise funds, review proposals and lead and/or manage programs. I have served as a consultant with nonprofits, small businesses, and at many levels of government.
My curriculum for teaching Board development, program and event design, fundraising and grant writing has been used from Colorado to Tennessee to Alaska.
This broad range of experience gives me confidence that I can help you tune up your proposals, manage your programs, and make your writing more persuasive and effective. Together we can organize and energize your volunteers, board members and staff.
