Creative Writing

Creative writing allows me to exercise my imagination and gives me freedom to explore a variety of formats. I enjoy writing poetry, short fiction, creative non-fiction and memoir. My writing ranges from haiku, form and free verse poetry to essays, technical manuals, grant proposals, event publicity, and training for volunteers and employees.

I believe that poets and writers are superheroes. Through our creativity of expression we distill and articulate the issues facing our societies, and offer solutions, alternatives, and acknowledgement of important events and opinions. Few other approaches can create memorable language and characters, model behaviors and speak truth to power and to our community. Creative writing offers inspiration and hope to our readers and listeners.

I am grateful to the editors, publishers and judges who have found my writing worthy of awards and recognition. Their support and that of readers encourages me to continue to pursue creative writing, especially poetry, as an important voice and occupation.
